Calling ALL Artists for the Reflections Program of 2017-2018!
Reflections is the annual National PTA art program to recognize creativity and artistry in children from grades K-12. This year’s theme is:

Entries will be due October 27.

The Top 2 winners per category, per grade division, will be submitted for PTA Reflections District judging.

If you any questions, please contact Amy Balikyan, or go to http://capta.org/programs-events/reflections/  for more program details.

PROCESS:

Artworks are submitted first to school-level PTAs, where they are first recognized, celebrated and judged by grade-level divisions (TK-2, 3-5), while a non-judged Special Artists division celebrates student artists with special needs. School PTAs then choose a selection of entries to be judged by councils and then districts for consideration. The final artworks submitted to California State PTA by districts are then considered for Awards of Excellence or Awards of Merit. Award of Excellence entries then go on to represent California in the final National PTA judging round. Please review general entry rules and specific category rules.

State-level Award of Excellence honorees receive:

  • The opportunity to showcase their artwork at the California State PTA Convention
  • Prizes including an Award of Excellence medal, certificate and a $100 savings bond presented on stage at convention
  • An expense-paid trip for the award-winning student and one parent/guardian to convention.

State-level winners were recognized at the 2017 California State PTA Annual Convention and will be posted online soon. National-level Award of Excellence honorees are recognized at the National PTA Convention, plus their artworks are featured in Reflections’ popular traveling national exhibit. See the list of National winners.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

All PTA Reflections program entries are judged on three criteria:
1. Interpretation of Theme (20 pts.)
2. Creativity (10 pts.)
3. Technique (10 pts.)

Notice how “Interpretation of Theme” is weighted? This is what makes the National PTA Reflections Arts Program unique. A well developed concept is more important than technique. If two entries are tied, the entry with the higher score for interpretation of theme receives
more recognition.
